How Nasonex works
Nasonex contains a steroid that helps reduce nasal swelling caused by allergic reaction.
How to take Nasonex
The normal starting dose for most patients is 50 mcg or 1 spray in each nostril per day. To be effective, Nasonex must be used regularly once a day. Do not skip days, even if your nasal symptoms are under control. If you are using Nasonex to prevent seasonal allergy symptoms, start using Nasonex about 2 to 4 weeks before allergy season begins.
Nasonex precautions
During treatment, your immune system may not be strong enough to fight off an infection. Therefore, stay away from people with chicken pox, measles, or any other type of infectious disease.
What to tell your doctor
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing, have a nasal septum ulcer, recently had nasal surgery, or nasal damage. Also, let your doctor know if you have a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection of any kind. You may not be able to use Nasonex if you have an infection.
Nasonex side effects
In clinical testing the most common side effects reported were headache, viral infection, sore throat, nosebleeds, and coughing. Other less serious side effects that may occur during your treatment with Nasonex include the following: upper respiratory tract infection, painful menstruation, stinging or burning of the nose, and muscle pain. If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives) stop using Nasonex and seek medical attention immediately.
